Tea tree essential oil

How to recognize it?

The Tea-tree also called “ tea tree ” is a plant of the Myrtaceae family. It looks like a tree with white flowers . It can be found in the wild in Australia.

When we think of the Tea Tree, we automatically think of Australia . The name Tea-Tree comes from Captain Cook (18th Century). Indeed, its sailors used leaves of a Melaleuca to make tea . The tea tree has been traditionally used by Aboriginal people for thousands of years. In addition, Tea-Tree essential oil was already present in the packs of Australian soldiers who participated in the Second World War. Since the 1980s, the Australian production sector has been able to select the best varieties, in terms of yield, growth but also chromatographic profile. They almost made this essential oil into a medicine !

Origin and history

However, Australia is finding it increasingly difficult to produce Organic Tea-Tree in quantity and competitively. The cause is changing climatic conditions (drought or torrential rain) and the proliferation of a fungus (Myrtle rust) which requires the spraying of fungicides. To meet the growing demand of the organic market, Australians have helped to develop the culture of Tea-Tree on the African continent for several decades. South Africa, Kenya, Lesotho and Zimbabwe are today producers of Organic Tea-Tree essential oil. China has also developed large (non-organic) Tea-Tree plantations and now supplies large quantities of essential oil.

Tea-Tree Pranarôm essential oil

Our Tea-Tree essential oil has come from the same Australian producer for over twenty years and also from South Africa and Zimbabwe. Tea-Tree was introduced to Zimbabwe in the late 1980s. Our supplier started growing Tea-Tree in 1992 and has been certified organic since 2002. He is now the only distiller in Zimbabwe. We have been working with him for almost 10 years, despite the major political and economic crisis this country is going through.

For 3 molecules (Limonene, Terpinen-4-ol and Alpha Terpineol), ATTIA ( Australian Tea Tree Industry Association ) has determined a chiral standard characteristic of Tea-Tree essential oil which must be respected to be able to mention the term Tea-Tree on its bottles. Based on this standard, they have been hunting down fraudsters for years!

In the panel of samples taken in Europe and tested by L'ATTIA, one sample was ours. Pranarôm tea tree essential oil has been recognized by this association as being a 100% pure and natural tea tree oil steam distilled from Melaleuca alternifolia leaf. This allows us to guarantee 100% the quality and therapeutic effectiveness of this Essential Oil.
